Tips for Shiny Hair

While the real source of beautiful shiny locks comes from a healthy diet and the products you use,  the ways that you care for your hair have a big role too! Try out a few of these tips and get your (hair) shine on!

Use A Clarifying Shampoo

While overshampooing your hair can cause your hair to be dull and be prone to breakage, there are times that you need a reset and need to get rid of excess product buildup. This is where a clarifying shampoo can make a difference. Excess product buildup can block your hair’s shine, so a once in a while clarifying reset is key to shiny hair.

Hair Care Tip: A DIY apple cider vinegar rinse can also be a great way to clarify any excess buildup in your hair, and can also condition it. Mix equal parts ACV and water in a bottle and spritz over hair in the shower, then rinse. Easy!

Condition, Condition!

Pump your hair full of moisture with a lightweight conditioner that will smooth out any cracks in the hair follicle that lead to dull or frizzy hair. Choose a conditioner that has healthy oils such as avocado or olive oil as an ingredient. For extra moisture and shine, treat your hair to a deep conditioning hair mask once a week or so.

Hair Care Tip: Sleep on a satin pillowcase to help prevent frizz and follicle damage.

Rinse With Cold Water

Rinsing your hair with cool water after a shampoo and conditioner helps seal the hair cuticles, which keeps your hair shaft laying down. Believe it or not, this contributes to hair shine and even helps your hair color last longer.

Hair Care Tip:  Too much heat and overwashing your hair can strip away the natural oils that make it shiny and silky, leaving your hair dry, brittle and damaged. To prevent this, try washing it every other day and use a dry shampoo in between washes to preserve your hairstyle and absorb any excess oil sitting at the roots.

Add Hair Oil To Your Routine

Hair oils such as Argan oil,  are great at smoothing out your hair’s cuticle and also protect your hair from flatirons, curling wands, and hair dryers. Just keep in mind, a little goes a long way!

Use A Hairbrush With Natural Bristles

Using a natural bristle hairbrush helps drag the natural oils from your scalp through your hair. This also helps avoid oily roots and gets the mid-lengths and ends a boost of hydration.

Hair Care Tip: Brushing your hair regularly is quite beneficial to a healthy scalp. While it does a good job in distributing your hair’s natural oils, it also helps stimulate blood flow to the scalp which in turn promotes hair growth!

Your Diet Impacts Your Hair Health

If abs are made in the kitchen, healthy shiny hair starts there too. Healthy hair ultimately starts from within. Try to eat a well-balanced diet full of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Omega 3 Fatty Acids to promote shiny hair. Eat a diet that includes dark leafy greens, salmon, chia seeds, nuts, and eggs to get those important Omega 3’s!
