Olaplex is a new hair product that’s only been around for a little over 5 years. It’s been revolutionary and is a game–changer for how stylists and customers maintain their hairstyle. But what exactly is Opalex and is it something you should try during your next salon visit?
What is Olaplex?
When you expose your hair to chemical treatments like coloring and bleaching, repeated heat (from styling tools or perms), or excessive exposure to sunlight, it causes disulfide bonds in the hair to break. Leading to weakened and damaged hair that looks frizzy, dull, and stringy.
Olaplex is a patented product line of hair repair treatments that reconnect the broken disulfide sulfur bonds in the hair. It’s a three-step treatment process that aims to repair and prevent further hair damage.
Now with the patented breakthrough chemistry of Olaplex, you can color your hair more often without worrying about damaging your hair.
Olaplex prevents damage to hair while at the same time repairing it.

How do I use Olaplex?
Great hair is a science! While you can purchase some Olaplex products at retail stores such as Ulta Beauty or Nordstrom, you are not able to buy the complete line of products.
When using Olaplex in the salon, it is a three-part salon-grade system all of which contain the primary active ingredient bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate.
- No. 1 Bond Multiplier: Beginning the Rebuilding This concentrated product contains a water solution of the active ingredient and is added directly to the permanent dye solution that is used in the hair-coloring process. It begins the process of preventing damage while repairing the hair.
- No. 2 Bond Perfector: Pursuing Hair Perfection This product is used directly after your hair has been colored/bleached and is a combination of the active ingredient and conditioning agents and it continues to rebuild and restore any remaining broken bonds.
- No. 3 Hair Perfector: Repair, Protect, and Strengthen This product contains the smallest amount of the active ingredient along with the additional conditioning agents. It can be used at the salon or can be used as an at-home treatment that continues to reduce breakage and visibly strengthens hair.
Is this the right hair product for me?
The greatest benefit of Olaplex is anyone with any type of hair history can use it! It does not matter if you have bleached/dyed your hair your entire life or you are getting your first color treatment. It works!
You don’t even need to have ever dyed or bleached your hair to use an Olaplex treatment. Hair can be compromised over time from the environment, lifestyle, and age. The structural integrity of your hair, or the bonds, become weakened and by using Olaplex your hair is restored and re-bonded. Additionally, Olaplex prevents further and future damage. It’s a win-win.
