Some cuts help a long face appear wider, make a round face appear longer, or a square jaw appear softer. The secret to a pleasing hairstyle is finding one that creates an illusion for the look you are seekingWith the right cut, nearly anything is possible. There will be haircuts that look best on you and a few that aren’t as flattering, no matter your face shape. This can explain why an otherwise perfect hairstyle might have you less than thrilled with how it makes you look. It’s good to work with a pro to get the best look for your face shape and help you achieve your hair goals.

How to tell my face shape?

You must identify your face shape before you can find your most flattering hairstyle. Here’s how: with your hair tied backtake a selfie looking straight forward. To identify the shape simply trace around the outside of your face to reveal what it most closely resembles. Thanks, technology!

Face shape is one thing to consider. At Jill McCormack Hair, there are other factors that I’ll take into consideration before your hair cut. We think about your hair texture, lifestyle, personality, and your body type as well.  Book a consult at Jill McCormack Hair to reveal the most flattering cut that fits you in every way!

Facial Features to Highlight

There will likely be many hairstyles that suit your face shape; so, here is where you should startAs your hairstylist, I’ll highlight your best features to find a great haircut for your face shape.

There are a few features to highlight to achieve your best look:

Reese Witherspoon Heartshaped face long hair

Heart-Shaped Face:  Use bangs or volume along the sides to draw attention to your eyes and cheekbones.

Long Face Picking the right hair cut

Long Face: Go with shorter cuts or styles that have plenty of volume.  Bangs also help and remember the longer your hair is, the longer it will make your face look.

Oval Face: Most every hairstyle flatters this shape. It is probably more important to find a good style for your hair texture.

Picking a Hair Cut Round Face Celebrity Cut

Round Face:Haircuts that are below your chin are some of the better options. But you can certainly pull off a pixie too! With wavy or curly hair, be careful not to go too short which may add more width to the cheek area. You can elongate your face with short styles that add volume on top.

Picking Hair Cut Style Square Jaw Woman

Square Face:  Texture, in the form of curls or choppy ends, does a brilliant job at softening a strong, angular jaw.

On Trend Cuts

Great news, most trendhairstyles can look good on basically any face shape. Including:

  • Bobs
  • Shoulder-length cuts
  • Bangs
  • Long hair
  • The pixie

There may be elements that would be more flattering on you with each of these types of cuts. If you have your heart set on a certain cut, set up a consult with the best stylist in Finksburg. Together we can work on finding the best style within the cut that suits you best.

Banging Bangs

One of my favorite simple cuts are bangs. Flattering on almost all face shapes, bangs can freshen up an ordinary cut. They bring attention to the eyes and can take years off a face.

Pro Tip:  Try cutting your blunt bangs longer on the sides or opt for side-swept bangs, if you have a square face. Both will help to soften your features.

Hair texture is the biggest issue when contemplating bangs. Super wavy and Curly hair and are two of the biggest concerns with bangs, but that doesn’t rule them out entirely.

Picking the Right Cut for Your Face

There are no true rules when it comes to hair. You pick a style that makes you feel your best.  One’s attitude is really the secret to looking gorgeous. A haircut that makes you feel unlike yourself is the last thing you want to do.

If you want a haircut that breaks the “rules” of your face shape, then, go for it. What the beauty industry thinks is flattering is always trumped by how you feel about yourself. You can carry any haircut if you have the right attitude.  For a fresh new look, book a consultation online or call the Jill McCormack Salon at 443-745-3503 today!
